History of the Enuma Shrine

In April 1704, during the first year of the Hoei era, Maeda Toshinao, the third lord of the Daishoji Domain, established the Tenmanten Tenjin Shrine within his residence. The shrine was dedicated to the spirit of Sugawara no Michizane, a distant ancestor of the Maeda family.

At the time of the Meiji Restoration, the Tenmanten Tenjin Shrine was relocated to the grounds of Nata Temple due to the abolition of the domain system.

Separately, a shrine known as Matsushima Shrine was renamed to Matsushima Jinja in October 1873. In November 1874, the deity enshrined at Matsushima Jinja was changed to Maeda Toshiharu, the founder of the Daishoji Domain.

In February 1877, the shrine was renamed the Enuma Shrine, and in September of the same year, it was promoted to a Gousha (a shrine of a village or town). In 1879, the Tenmanten Tenjin Shrine, which had been moved to Nata Temple, was merged into the Enuma Shrine. The shrine was then promoted to a Kensha (a prefectural shrine) in June 1883.

江沼神社と風傳流

大聖寺藩に風傳流槍術を伝えたのは、藩士・奥村助六家茂である。

宝永元年（1704）のことという。奥村家の道場は、穴虫に在ったという。

江沼神社境内（藩邸跡）には、槍術道場があり、各流派（佐分利流槍術、宝蔵院槍術など）

がともに技を磨いていたと思われる。

令和6年（2024）6月9日、古武道武心会大聖寺支部を設立し、江沼神社公認のもと、古くから

 伝わる風傳流槍術の普及発展に努めている。

The Enuma Shrine and Fuden-ryu

The Fuden-ryu spear art was brought to the Daishoji Domain by a samurai named Okumura Sukeroku-Iemochi. This is said to have occurred in 1704. Okumura's dojo was located in Anamushi.

Within the grounds of the Enuma Shrine (which was once the site of the domain's residence), there was a spear art dojo where practitioners of various schools, such as Saburi-ryu and Hozoin-ryu, refined their skills together.

On June 9, 2024, the Daishoji branch of the Kobudo Mushinkai was established. With official recognition from the Enuma Shrine, the group is working to promote and develop the Fuden-ryu spear art, which has been passed down for generations.
